Here's what they are...

2014 Merlot – Ciel du Cheval Vineyard : Red Mountain

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard is a premier vineyard in Washington State.  Located in the Red Mountain AVA, it is blessed with warm days and cool nights that ensure dominant, mature, ripe flavors. We expect luxurious wines with firm structure from Ciel du Cheval, and this Merlot is no exception. The rich, dark berry flavors marry and stream through a complex finish that lingers. We thank vineyard owner Jim Holmes for his fine fruit during a wonderful vintage that can spend considerable time in a proper cellar. Enjoy!

18.5/20 points

Review of Washington Wines - March 2019
Deep ruby colored, this 100% Merlot possesses rich aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum, black roses, mulberry, pipe tobacco, sage and smoldering incense. The flavors are generous, yet focused, with notes of licorice, cocoa, French roast and Red Mountain calcareous earth. On the back, the wine gains intensity with sensations of macerated berries, roasted pecans, mocha and pencil lead, followed by a grainy yet smooth tannin finish. 18.5/20 points.

Review of Washington Wines - March 2020

Deep ruby colored, this 100% varietal wine possesses an intriguing nose of blackberry, raspberry, cherry, plum, black roses, anise and wood smoke. The flavors are full and generous, yet focused, with notes of licorice, bittersweet chocolate, French roast and Red Mountain calcareous earth. The wine tightens up a bit on the back with sensations of pressed fruits, roasted hazelnuts, mocha and graphite, followed by a satisfying moderate tannin finish. Aged in seasoned oak, the terroir and varietal character speak for the wine.

Review of Washington Wines - March 2020
From a premier vineyard in the heart of Red Mountain, this 100% Merlot offers a deep ruby color and intriguing aromas of wild raspberries, Bing cherries, Damson plums, black currants, crushed roses, mulberry, tobacco, anise, a hint of mint, and wafts of smoldering incense. The flavors, as well, are dramatic, with dark fruits that are intermixed with licorice, cocoa, French roast and scorched earth. The wine intensifies on the back with pressed fruits, roasted nuts, kirsch and framboise liqueurs, plum preserves and graphite followed by a lingering sweet-dry tannin finish. 19/20 points($38) — Rand Sealey
