2016 Arianses Vineyard : Wahluke Slope - $30

We proudly present another interesting vintage from Arianses Vineyard near Desert Air along the Columbia River just south of Mattawa. Special thanks to vineyard owner Bruce Zunser for his care and vision in growing the components to offer us this Bordeaux style blend. Merlot is dominant, but all varietals offer significant sensory components. The complexity and fruit forward nature of this wine are achieved with multi-yeast fermentations, bâtonage, and early integration through blending.  We think you’ll enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Barrels: This wine was aged 22 months in 13% once used French oak from Darnajou with the balance seasoned French oak from Alain Fouquet, Ton. deJarnac, and Ton. Vernou plus seasoned American oak from A&K.

The 2016 Arianses Vineyard checks in as a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot, and 11% Cabernet Franc. This medium ruby/purple-hued effort offers lots of smoked black currants and tobacco notes as well as a touch of chocolatey oak, medium to full body, a rounded, nicely textured style, and outstanding length. It's another solid, thoroughly enjoyable red from this estate. – Jeb Dunnuck

 

2016 Cabernet Sauvignon - Dineen Vineyard: Yakima Valley - $38

This charming location near Zillah is quickly becoming our showcase vineyard of the Yakima Valley. Grapes for this wine were raised in Catherine’s Block by owner Patrick Dineen and Vineyard Manager Patrick Rawn. The cool location brings out the rich dark berry notes you expect in a Cabernet coupled with well-structured tannins that finish with hints of chocolate and spice. Bottled alone, it offers one a chance to explore the terroir of this site. Special thanks to the Two Pats!

100% Cabernet Sauvignon (Dineen Vineyard)

Barrels: This wine was aged for 22 months in Export style barrels of 17% new French oak from AB Selections and the balance seasoned French oak from Ton. Doreau, Taransaud, and Vernou.

All Cabernet from a site in the Yakima Valley, aged mostly in neutral barrels, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Dineen Vineyard is a classic, well-made Cabernet that has plenty of spiced red and black fruits, some tobacco and spicy oak, medium body, a rounded, nicely textured mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's a classic, impeccably put together Cabernet that will drink well for 10-12 years or more. Drink 2020-2032. – Jeb Dunnuck

 

2016 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard: Red Mountain - $45

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard is a premier vineyard in Washington State.  Located in the Red Mountain AVA, it is blessed with warm days and cool nights that ensure dominant, mature, ripe flavors. This vintage we return to a Cab Sauv dominant blend with significant contributions from Cab Franc and Merlot. The rich, dark berry flavors marry with the bold tannin structure typical of Ciel and Red Mountain. 33% new French oak contributes subtle caramel and vanilla components and assists in structuring the wine for considerable age in the cellar. We thank the Holmes family for raising this fine fruit during a wonderful season.

Barrels: This wine was aged 22 months Export-style barrels of 33% new French oak from AB Selections,17% once used French oak by Alain Fouquet, and the balance seasoned barrels from Ton. Doreau, de Jarnac, and Ton. Vernou.

Lastly, the 2016 Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard comes from a great vineyard on Red Mountain and is 50% Cabernet, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 17% Merlot. Cassis, candied violets, lead pencils, and hints of orange zest all emerge from the glass, and it's more medium-bodied, with a great mid-palate, ample concentration, and that classic sense of minerality that I almost always find from Red Mountain fruit. As with the other wines here, it's beautifully balanced and will evolve gracefully for 15 years. Drink 2020-2035. – Jeb Dunnuck
