Here's what we and Rand Sealey have to say about this wine...
The sense of place when making wine in small lots is very important in understanding this wine. The grapes were sourced from Heart of the Hill Vineyard on Red Mountain, a fairly new project for owner/grower Scott Williams. We thank him for the wisdom of his toil and see the results in our Mourvèdre that benefits from warm days on Red Mountain. It’s lush with fruit and spice followed by savory notes typical of this varietal, often supported with a dash of pepper. We hope you love it! Bottled 7/23/16; 50 cases produced; Alcohol: 15%; pH 3.60, TA 6.11 g/L
100% Mourvèdre (Heart of the Hill Vineyard)
Barrels: This wine was aged for 22 months in French Export style oak barrels, once used by Ton. Orion and seasoned oak by Ton. Vernou.
From Rand Sealey - Review of Washington Wines
2014 Nota Bene Cellars Mourvèdre, Red Mountain, Heart of the Hill Vineyard ($30)
This wine displays a semi opaque ruby color and a rich, smoky (a trait of Mourvèdre) nose of blackberry, huckleberry, plum and black currant with scents of dried roses, mulberry, tobacco, garrigue, pepper and spiced incense. The dark fruit flavors are thick, almost massive, with notes of black licorice, dark cocoa, Sumatra roast and Red Mountain scorched earth. The saturation continues on the back with sensations of grilled berries and nut meats, crème de cassis and burnt charcoal, followed by a savory ripe tannin finish. 18.5+/20 points.
